The premiere screening of a new film created by animation students from Kingston University, accompanied by the London Sinfonietta performing music from Messiaen's `Quartet for the End of Time'.
Students have created new work inspired by Messiaen's music and focused on his synaesthesia, the mixing of the senses and use of colour. The students explore the use of light and dark in the film, creating stop frame light painting sequences, torches, mobile phones, LED key rings and bike lights to generate colour and light.
They then choreographed sequences, breaking down their movements into repeatable loops, which they filmed. Some students filmed in the area around Southbank Centre, others took over studio spaces, local parks and streets, bedrooms and kitchens, making light paintings in the dark.
Funded by London Sinfonietta and Kingston University.
